Why doctrine matters...

Doctrine matters as scripture warns us to be sure we are rightly discerning the word of truth.

Pastor David Henneke of First Kingsland Church spoke on this, and I took notes to test and see if it was truth or not. Here is what I got...

1 Timothy 4 - all scripture is God-breathed. ✅
2 Timothy 3 - a form of religion by denying the power of Jesus.
1 John 4:1 - testing every spirit.
2 Peter 2 - 1 But [in those days] false prophets arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will subtly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their shameful ways, and because of them the way of truth will be maligned. And in their greed they will exploit you with false arguments and twisted doctrine. Their sentence [of condemnation which God has decreed] from a time long ago is not idle [but is still in force], and their destruction and deepening misery is not asleep [but is on its way].
2 Timothy 4:1 - 5 - In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.
Ephesians 5:6 - 7, Let no one deceive you with empty arguments [that encourage you to sin], for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience [those who habitually sin]. So do not participate or even associate with them [in the rebelliousness of sin].

All great passages that address false doctrine. This is a great message.

The argument of Matthew 7 - judging others, why some people say "do not judge!" Jesus did not say don't judge at all, but careful WHEN you judge. Use love, but indeed we need to judge or use discernment. Amplified says, “[a]Do not judge and criticize and condemn [others unfairly with an attitude of self-righteous superiority as though assuming the office of a judge], so that you will not be judged [unfairly]. So make sure we're in the right place so that we don't become a hypocrite. Verse 6 is warning to not waste our time on those who are "dogs" or "pigs" as Jesus says.
Verses 15 - 20 wolf in sheep's clothing. Pastors are unloving if they expose their flock to false teaching, to wolves to infect the flock. Exercise discernment. In this time we need to have discernment. Pray for wisdom. For love when doing it.

Romans 16:17 - 18, 17 I urge you, brothers and sisters, to keep your eyes on those who cause dissensions and create obstacles or introduce temptations [for others] to commit sin, [acting in ways] contrary to the doctrine which you have learned. Turn away from them. 18 For such people do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites and base desires. By smooth and flattering speech they deceive the hearts of the unsuspecting [the innocent and the naive].

1 Thessalonians 5:19 - 22. 1 Timothy 1 used to show how sometimes we need to name names when they are false teachers. I have heard people say you shouldn't call out false teachers, yet Paul did to show an example to the believers. It's not being slanderous but protecting the flock.

Pastor David says buying or downloading music by the artists connected with false teachers is to support them financially, it builds their ministry. Hmmm... The song put out that is on the radio or used in churches itself as part of worship may be accurate to the Word, but if the artist is connected to false doctrine, then to purchase/download their music is to support those false teachers. Hmmm... For example, Bethel (and yes I am calling them out as false teachers and heretical) - the kenosis theory - denies the deity of Christ when He was on earth - heresy! The kenosis theory states that Jesus was JUST a man, not God in the flesh. Heresy! Jesus was fully God and fully man when on earth.

So you see? This is why doctrine matters! We need to study the truth regularly so that when falsehood comes along, we can identify the lies. Kind of like studying the true monetary bills to easily identify counterfeit ones.

I have done Ask The Pastor on LIFE 100.3 since April 27, 2009. I was an Associate Pastor at Pinewoods Chapel in Angus before that. I have my BA in Ministry from Prairie Bible College and a Diploma in Biblical Studies from Word of Life Bible Institue. I have pastored at 3 different churches. The reason I share this? So you know I am not just pulling stuff out of the air, that I am not trying to puff myself up, but that I have done my research, I have done my study, and I have done my practice. I always put everything I see and hear to the test lie what 1 John 4:1 says to do.

In the end times, false doctrines and teachers come, we see some of that happening now. Why am I writing this? So we are ready as a church to confront and correct false doctrine. As to supporting artists from "churches" that teach false doctrine and heresy? The songs may be good Biblically, but surely there are enough songs out there from people who are not caught up in those movements, those cults, that we can use their songs instead.
